Migrantes Unidos joined the national Defund Hate Campaign to educate the public on the $1.4 trillion dollars spent on the policing and detention of immigrants in the last 20 years. The campaign asks President Biden to instead redirect the funds used to surveil and hurt immigrant communities to invest in health care and housing initiatives that can strengthen our communities. Migrantes Unidos added St.
Louis to the list of 15 cities across the US to carry out an in-person direct action.
The group built and decorated a beautiful hot air balloon from plywood and carried it to the entrance of St. Louis’s annual Balloon Glow. With chants, drums, flyers, dance, and joyful solidarity, MU made their presence known during the event and called for public support.
